This report highlights key epidemiological characteristics of imported infections of malaria and the need to strengthen targeted surveillance and response interventions by the national elimination program to achieve elimination and sustain it.

The purpose of this project was to develop and optimize a dashboard and registry to manage the distribution, utilization, and monitoring of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) emergency use–authorized medications (CEUAMs).

The results illustrated the clear indicative role of wastewater surveillance in combating COVID-19 and provided a practical basis for rapidly expanding the feasibility and value of routine wastewater surveillance for future emerging infectious diseases.

This article discusses the epidemiology of poliovirus by examining the aetiology of the disease and current mitigation policies implemented to prevent the spread of type 2 vaccine-deceived poliovirus in the UK.

Economic evaluation has an important role to play in the demonstration of value for money of early childhood public health interventions; however, concerns have been raised regarding their consistent application and relevance to commissioners. This systematic review of the literature therefore aims to collate the breadth of the existing economic evaluation evidence of these interventions and to identify the approaches adopted in the assessment of value.

Among individuals presenting for monkeypox vaccination, transition from an opt-out protocol for sexually transmitted infection (STI) and HIV risk assessment and testing to an opt-in protocol was associated with a substantial increase in missed opportunities for HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis and STI testing at an ambulatory sexual health clinic.

Monkeypox represents a diagnostic challenge due to varied clinical presentations and multiple mimics. A commercially available multiplex polymerase chain reaction panel accurately detects mpox virus as well as common mimics (herpes simplex virus, varicella zoster virus) in clinical specimens and could be used in routine clinical, surveillance, and outbreak settings.

Modified vaccinia virus Ankara (MVA) is used as a vaccine against monkeypox virus and as a viral vaccine vector. MVA-MERS-S is a vaccine candidate against Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS)–associated coronavirus. Here, we report that cross-reactive monkeypox virus neutralizing antibodies were detectable in only a single study participant after the first dose of MVA-MERS-S vaccine, in 3 of 10 after the second dose, and in 10 of 10 after the third dose.

This review summarizes the virology, history, epidemiology, clinical features and treatment options available for monkeypox infections, and discusses areas of the most pressing need for further research. The number of deaths remains much lower than prior reported outbreaks, although this may increase if there is sustained human-to-human transmission and more individuals from high-risk populations are exposed to the disease. It is likely that only with a sustained, collaborative international effort can we seek to contain this current outbreak.

The study describes a series of 25 consecutive patients with HIV and monkeypox coinfection to further understand this population’s clinical characteristics and transmission risks.
